About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a safety professional to join the Copper South Australia HS&SEM team as a Safety Principal – Carrapateena. Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, this role provides technical expertise in the strategic management, analysis and execution of safety related issues, provisions and initiatives supporting Carrapateena and broader Copper SA Asset.
This role is based at Carrapateena on an 8/6 FIFO roster.
In the Safety Principal role, you will:
- Lead the planning and enhancement of the site safety management system.
- Develop and implement safety improvement strategies and practices.
- Analyse and provide advice on safety risk management activities (e.g. culture, risk assessments, controls).
- Develop and implement cross-functional or cross-asset improvement initiatives based on industry best practice to enhance organisational capability and culture in responding to safety related risk.
- Manage, improve and provide expertise on safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance.
- Analyse safety data and information sources to identify emerging safety trends and recommend safety improvement initiatives.
- Coach and train to build capability in critical safety and risk systems.
- Facilitate Incident Investigations to identify causal factors and develop robust actions to eliminate potential for repeat events.
- Participate in targeted field leadership activities to provide coaching and identify gaps.
- Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
About You
- Solid experience in similar safety roles in Mining or other heavy industry.
- Minimum of Certificate IV in OHS, tertiary qualification, or equivalent industry experience managing safety, health, or risk (Diploma preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in an organisation.
- Sound HSE management system experience, problem solving and data analytical skills.
- Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve outcomes and support continuous improvement.
- Experience with facilitating safety incident investigations.
- A current C class motor license or equivalent Australian state motor vehicle license.
