The Opportunity
There is an opportunity to join the Office of the Chief Operating Officer in an EL1 Assistant Director, Audit and Assurance position. This is a labour hire contract position commencing ASAP until February 2026.
This role offers the opportunity to:
- Be part of the clean energy transition in Australia and gain insights into the industry, research and government initiatives driving this change
- Lead a wide range of internal audit and general assurance related activities, including managing the relationship with the internal audit service provider
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Closely work with ARENA’s internal audit service provider and fully support the internal audit program
- Develop audit scopes in consultation with the Risk and Audit Committee and Executive Management
- Develop audit forward workplan and engage with stakeholders in preparation of this plan
- Plan, develop and support Management Initiated Reviews
- Continuous improvement of audit function including the audit charter
- Build a positive culture around internal audit within the agency
- Regularly scan the environment for audit reports and international trends and update management on findings including ANAO readiness
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in a government setting coordinating internal audit activities and operating as the main liaison point for an internal audit service provider.
You will also have:
- A basic understanding of internal audit practices in the Commonwealth
- Ability to balance the imperative of maintaining a strong internal audit culture against ARENA’s competing priorities in a busy agency
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to proactively engage with and influence stakeholders, including managers across the organisation
- Ability to prioritise and adapt in the context of the management of multiple competing tasks and deliverables, including an ability to remain flexible
- Excellent project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment covering a wide breadth of subjects
Salary / Rate
- $76/hr - $79/hr + 11.5% Super (includes casual loading)
- Labour hire contract starting ASAP until Feb 2026
- Candidate must be located in Canberra, ACT
