  • Salary ranges from $125,693.00 to $138,510.00 + super + leave loading

Our Water Planning Implementation team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Water Implementation Officer to provide high quality management, analysis, and problem solving on water management issues, including water quality, with a focus on Menindee and the lower Darling, to enable the development and evaluation of effective water management operational responses and policy. This role will be leading how the team manages extreme events in the lower Darling/Baaka and Menindee Lakes.

This role is also part of a small team that undertakes significant community engagement and will be required to facilitate effective communication between local community and NSW government agencies in the Far West of NSW, particularly around Menindee and the Lower Darling. Therefore, the person will be required to undertake frequent travel to this region and is expected to be on-ground in the area. The successful candidate will be required to draft briefs, meeting notes and other government documents as well as respond to community enquiries on technical issues.

About You

Our Senior Water Implementation Officer undertakes significant community engagement and will also be a liaison between local communities in the Far West NSW around Menindee and the Lower Darling and State Government agencies involved in water quality.

You will work collaboratively with partner agencies and stakeholders, to identify operational-related water issues, manage and coordinate on-ground activities to investigate and address emerging issues, and review current legislative and policy settings to determine the need for corrective action and policy review and to inform current and future planning.

To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate should:

  • Be a strategic thinker with proven experience in planning, influencing, negotiation, and facilitation
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills, with experience in preparing advice for senior management, as well as communicating technical information to a broad range of audiences
  • Experience in developing innovative servicing plans, incorporating emerging technologies and integrated water products
  • Stakeholder engagement skills and local knowledge of the region are also important.
  • A deep local knowledge/understanding of the region (beliefs, histories, geography, opinions, preferences and grievances of the community) will be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite for the role
  • A driver's license and ability to travel across Far West NSW as needed (approx. 2-4 times a month)

Essential Requirements

  • Broad understanding of water management issues and relevant policy and legislative framework
  • Understanding of government processes is desirable
