The Process Technician requires experience in an industrial process operation role, with industrial experience. The role will ensure the efficient and compliant operation of the Happy Valley Water Treatment Plant. The role will ensure high quality safe drinking water is supplied to customers in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Operation and maintenance of the plants including routine tasks, preventive tasks, fault diagnosis and repair.
- Monitor and respond to plant issues including SCADA alarms and performance trends.
- Monitor plants process and make necessary adjustments in conjunction with the Plant Supervisor and Engineer.
- Ensure that operational performance targets of the water treatment plants are efficiently achieved to ensure high quality safe drinking water production.
- Assist the Plant Supervisor and to manage the plant in their absence.
- Ensure all duties are performed as per the agreed Work Method Statements, Procedures, Safe Work Instructions and the Permit to Work system.
- Monitor the plant work teams on site to ensure compliance to safety regulations and P&T Alliance Health and Safety procedures/guidelines.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance to site environmental procedures.
- Develop and continually improve operational practices and procedures.
- Provide daily updates to the Plant Supervisor.
- Identify and escalate potential and actual safety, water quality and environmental incidents and emergencies.
- Perform sampling and laboratory testing to confirm optimal operation of the plant and functionality of instrumentation.
- Participation in regular training to maintain skills and knowledge to the level required for plant operation.
- Perform general housekeeping of plant, equipment, buildings, structures, and surrounds.
- Identify optimisation opportunities and assist in developing plans to optimise plant and processes.
- Support Capital Works as required.
- Ensure adequate stocks of chemicals are available for the continued operation of the plant and notify the Plant Supervisor if additional chemical stocks are required.
- Effectively manage power usage and find improved efficiencies to reduce the associated costs.
- Operation of booster chlorinators.
- Undertake tank cleaning.
Essential requirements
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and show initiative
- Strong communication skills including good telephone manners and written skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work as a team member or independently
- Current unrestricted driver’s licence
- Required to work flexible hours to meet demands and be able to travel to metropolitan sites and places where necessary.
- Required to be on call for nominated water treatment plants on a roster basis which includes additional payment and allowances.
