About the OPPORTUNITY

We have a new opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Lead to join our Maritime Sustainment business, working on the newest ship platform, the Hobart Class Destroyer naval ships. Reporting to Manufacturing Project Delivery Manager, you will be employed on a permanent full time basis and will be situated in Osborne, Adelaide.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the governance and the delivery of the strategies and manufacturing artefacts for the manufacturing system, including manufacturing process instructions, compartment integration plans, and ship platform impact assessments and strategies
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary manufacturing engineering team, coach and develop personnel, ensuring services provided meet business and customer objectives
  • Establish effective consultation and communication mechanisms with customers, internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that stakeholders are fully engaged and establishing good relationships
  • Act as a manufacturing engineering advocate and point of contact for the program, collaborate closely with the production teams, ensuring effective design for manufacturing, assembly, ship build safety and efficient work practices are implemented
  • Provide manufacturing engineering expertise and support in the commissioning and ongoing continuous improvement of the program manufacturing system, driving the culture of best practice
  • Chair technical meetings and reviews that support the manufacturing engineering objectives
  • Identify and investigate manufacturing engineering problems and risks, formulate strategies for their resolution

About YOU

  • Extensive manufacturing engineering or production engineering experience
  • Tertiary engineering degree qualification or relevant trades technical experience
  • People leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage a team and provide effective leadership, direction and motivation
  • Demonstrated complex problem solving, analytical skills and decision making experience in a production/construction capacity with large numbers of stakeholders
  • Whilst not essential, knowledge of the Hobart Class Destroyer naval ship platform, will be highly regarded
