About the role

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager this role uses agile methodology values, principles, and practices to plan, manage, and deliver solutions. You will lead and inspire our delivery teams to achieve exceptional customer and organizational outcomes. You are expected to own your projects end to end and drive cross-functional delivery.

This role involves advanced critical thinking, planning, directing and communicating to achieve the delivery of projects to satisfy business and portfolio objectives. You will ensure all scrum-based activities are completed in a timely manner, including defining and organizing Scrum roles, sprint planning, daily scrum/ standups, sprint reviews and sprint retrospectives.

You will thrive on cultivating an atmosphere for high-performing team dynamics, ongoing improvement and continuous flow by training, mentoring, and supporting teams to follow agile values, principles, and practices. This role involves advanced critical thinking, planning, directing and communicating to achieve the delivery of projects to satisfy business and portfolio objectives.

Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities Strategic Focus
  • Lead and inspire project teams to define and deliver complex and large projects (up to $10 million) across the entire lifecycle while being cognizant of the complexity, cost, urgency, risk, and stakeholder value
  • Build strong relationships and actively collaborate across functions to support the achievement of objectives with clear and upfront mutual expectations, including with business customers.
  • Monitoring progress & performance and helping teams to make improvements
Operational Management
  • Define project scope, success criteria and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, accurately interpreting ideas, information and needs
  • Implement effective governance for project tracking and reporting to ensure timely and appropriate decision making.
  • Proactively manage variance and change requests within control mechanisms
  • Plan, control and monitor costs and outcomes to ensure they meet financial objectives.
  • Manage each project’s scope and timeline and coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups.
  • Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests.
  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur and help teams implement changes effectively.
  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint.
  • Tracking project processes, deliverables, and financials and preparing and presenting status reports to stakeholders.
People Leadership
  • Engage/inspire the project team, delegating appropriately, providing clarity, direction and attention, and maintaining a collegiate and productive work environment while holding the team accountable to meet commitments.
  • Planning and organizing demos and product/system testing.
  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks.
  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration.
  • Be the point of contact for external communications (e.g. from customers or stakeholders).
  • Guide development teams to higher scrum maturity.
  • Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it.
Governance & Risk
  • Comply to broader organisational governance requirements for reporting and tracking purposes
  • Manage Risks and Issues with documentation, to ensure achievement of the best outcomes possible.
Experience & Personal Attributes
  • A minimum 5 years as a Scrum Master or Project Manager or similar role
  • Possess excellent knowledge of agile methodology, techniques and frameworks including scrum, SAFe or Kanban to deliver solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate people and projects (occasionally facilitating changes) with your mind set on deliverables.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated people leadership
  • Invested in Agile frameworks
  • Certified Scrum Master
  • Experienced within financial services, preferably (non-essential) in superannuation, wealth and/or insurance.
