About the role

Mater Health is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced State-wide Quality and Safety Manger to join the state-wide clinical governance team in a full-time appointment.

The State-wide Quality and Safety Manger will provide support to the Mater Health Ministry in delivering safe and high-quality care. Mater is committed to creating an organisational culture that values safety, identifies system vulnerabilities, and clearly integrates risk, quality and safety functions and activities. This role reports to the Director of Clinical Governance and works collaboratively with a team of colleagues within the state-wide clinical governance team.

A state-wide role focused on quality systems, consumer experience and managing clinical risk/safety this role will work collaboratively with staff and managers/clinicians to ensure quality governance systems are in place, clinical risk frameworks are functioning effectively, and there is a continuous improvement cycle in the delivery of high-quality healthcare. Supporting our frontline teams and leaders to provide excellent care to every patient every time, through good governance and systems is a key function of this role across all Mater hospitals and services.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

At a state-wide level across the Mater Health Ministry:

  • Lead accreditation planning and preparation to ensure all services are “accreditation- ready” for Short Notice Assessment Program (SNAP) with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, and other relevant accreditation programs required.
  • Lead, develop, implement and maintain an organisational-wide quality system.
  • Manage the organisation’s quality management system which incorporates compliance with the accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate and support the standardisation of committee and working group operations, documentation, reporting and driving work plans to ensure consistency across Mater Health and assuring State Health Executive and Board Committees of good governance systems and processes.
  • Work with Mater Health leaders and managers, Quality and Safety Managers and Quality and Safety Associates to ensure appropriate preparation for accreditation for all Mater Health services.
  • Lead and manage quality audit programs across Mater Health, ensuring evidence-based and validated tools used where possible, and benchmarking against like services to inform outcome measurements wherever possible.
  • Support Quality and Safety Managers across the Mater Health network to analyse incidents/events, audit results and other data to evaluate service and patient / consumer outcomes, developing and monitoring impact of quality improvement plans on service outcomes.
  • Ensure risk identification and mitigation across all Mater Health services, with effective documentation and assurance of compliance and progress measured against internal and external benchmarks wherever possible.
  • Coordinate and review internal and external reporting, clinical indicators, risk registers, clinical variation and dashboards to ensure delivery and planning for safe and high-quality care across Mater Health.
  • Coordinate state-wide surveys and audits as required to ensure consistency and follow-up on actions and monitoring of progress.
  • Coordination of clinical incident / adverse event reporting and monitoring sharing of lessons learned and consistent safe practice across Mater Health.
  • Chair and coordinate meetings and committees as delegated across Mater Health.
  • Coordinate systems that ensure state-wide approach to key aspects of quality and safety across Mater Health.
  • Coach, educate and mentor Quality and Safety Managers, Quality and Safety Associates and other key stakeholders on systems and processes required for ongoing maintenance of accreditation and quality management systems.

About you

Essential qualifications

  • Relevant qualification and/or substantial work experience (greater than 5 years) in managing organisational clinical governance/quality systems at a group-wide, state-wide or national level.
  • Be registered health practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in leading, implementing and maintaining a quality management system and executing quality improvement measures.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating workplace practices against accreditation standards, quality systems and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk and change management.
