What you’ll do

We are looking for a Senior Public Relations Manager to join our Corporate Affairs Team and lead the delivery of a strategic program of PR activity.

Reporting to the Head of Media & PR, this is a newly created role which is responsible for ensuring Bunnings is identifying and capitalising on opportunities to proactively engage and grow audiences through consumer, industry and business channels, in addition to promoting various parts of the Bunnings Group.

  • Lead the delivery of a strategic program of PR activity to support Bunnings’ business objectives, campaigns, partnerships and community engagement activity
  • Provide leadership in managing the PR team (one direct report as well as agency partnerships) and internal resources to deliver the plan
  • Build out and manage the organisation’s network of contacts and relationships across relevant consumer, trade and business media
  • Ensure effective and appropriate department collaboration across Corporate Affairs, Brand, Marketing and other Bunnings business units
  • Effectively manage and utilise budget to leverage agency and service provider support
  • Be a custodian of the brand to ensure Bunnings’ reputation is protected and enhanced

Who we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate will be a leader who is confident in managing an internal team and external agency partnerships, and has a strong network of media contacts to go with a deep understanding of the media and social media landscape.

You will have excellent planning, communication and organisation skills, a willingness to be bold and push the boundaries, be confident in influencing decision makers and be able to stay calm in a crisis.

  • Tertiary qualification in PR/Communications or an equivalent degree desirable
  • 10+ years’ experience in a corporate communications/ public relations role and demonstrated understanding of the media and corporate communications process
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a high performing team
  • Ability to advise and provide recommendations to the executive team on PR matters
  • Understanding of and ability to identify potential business risks
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic communications and PR plans
  • Strong understanding of and experience with social media channels including development of strategy and use of issue mitigation tools
  • Experience and understanding of issues and crisis management processes
