Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group's relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing FICC market, equity derivatives, lending and capital markets execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with their customers.

The IB&M Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is responsible for the management of non-financial risk for IB&M’s global operations across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America. This includes the identification and assessment of key risks that could impact the way in which the IB&M business achieves its objectives, and ensuring these are mitigated as appropriate.
The Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is responsible for developing the non-financial risk strategy and supporting the business to proactively reduce risk exposure in the business in the context of IB&M‘s risk appetite. The Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is the central conduit between the business, Line 2 and regulators
Core responsibilities are:
- Non-financial Risk Strategy and Planning – orchestrate and continuously improve Line 1 risk management practices,
- Risk Delivery and Reduction – on behalf of Line 1 monitor and accelerate risk reduction and major risk projects,
- Risk Management Excellence – ensuring consistent and effective deployment throughout Line 1 of non-financial risk management practices in line with Group-wide standards.
Line 1 management retains ultimate accountability to manage its own risks.
Your Impact:
The Director AI Risk is responsible for supporting the IB&M business to manage its risks within appetite for AI development, deployment and lifecycle management. This will include providing support with regards to risk assessments and framework requirements, guidance on engagement with key SME teams and insight on Group policy and framework developments.
The nature of the role involves engagement across multiple stakeholders in IB&M and the wider organisation, and will be accountable for:
- Supporting the business in ensuring adherence with Group policies and frameworks as they apply to AI risk.
- Supporting the management of the risk and control environment for AI models and tools within IB&M.
- Ensuring a risk-based approach is in place to manage AI development, from experiments through to deployed models and in life monitoring.
- Ensuring IB&M has a holistic view for the quantum of AI models, and the risks they pose.
- Liaising with key SME’s in other areas of the Group, to ensure IB&M is across key framework and policy developments, as well as leveraging experience and expertise.
- Champion and drive a continuous improvement mind-set that optimises the risk culture of the business when it comes to AI Risk.
Your responsibilities:
IB&M Non-Financial Risk and Conduct works in partnership with the end to end IB&M business and the IB&M Chief Risk Office (CRO) team to deliver effective outcomes in IB&M.
Application of business acumen – specific responsibilities include:
- Maintain an understanding of the business and a commercial appreciation of IB&M’s strategic objectives;
- Leverage productive and proactive working relationships with the support functions, Risk Management, Group Audit and Assurance colleagues and other Controls teams
- Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with all relevant CBA Group and IB&M stakeholder groups and functions (risk management, operations, technology, legal etc.)
AI Risk – specific responsibilities include:
- Provide subject matter expertise to assist the business in managing AI risks.
- Represent IB&M on relevant group-wide AI forums and councils.
- Act as a coordination point between relevant Group Risk Teams and IB&M.
- Promote senior management awareness of AI risks and issues, including through the provision of periodic reporting to management through the relevant IB&M risk forums.
- Examine external AI developments and events to determine applicability to the business and identify potential internal control enhancements.
- Ensuring oversight of the AI posture of IB&M’s key suppliers, including the role out of any 3rd Party AI models or tools.
- Provide advice and guidance on the protection of critical data, including relevant regulatory changes.
- Build senior stakeholder relationships to provide guidance and advice on AI-related issues, and drive business-led prioritisation and remediation of these issues.
We're interested in hearing from people who have:
- Strong strategic and conceptual thinking and problem solving skills.
- Experience in AI and Technology disciplines.
- Relevant business Non-Financial risk experience, with exposure to AI-related risks.
- Knowledge of management of operational or compliance risk.
- Ability to develop constructive working relationships with a large and varied stakeholder group at all levels of seniority across IB&M, its business partners and the Group.
- Experience in senior stakeholder management, able to influence, communicate clearly and deliver on a strategic agenda in a complex regulated business.
- Understanding of financial markets and the institutional banking industry is advantageous.
- Ability to improve Risk & Control processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication and a team player.
- Experience with drafting business processes, procedures and controls highly desirable.
- Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline desirable.
- Post graduate qualification beneficial.
