The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
The SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.
The role
The position is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing Edith Cowan’s University Department of Rural Health, South West (UDRH SW) student placement program at SWAMS. The program aim is to build rural health workforce capacity through providing innovative rural health placements facilitating quality rural learning experiences, including in the context of caring for Aboriginal patients in a culturally safe manner. The key responsibilities include student placement planning, and coordinating collaboration between UDRH SW and SWAMS, providing quality and valuable learning experiences for students, as well as measuring and reporting on the delivery of program outputs and outcomes. The role will oversee the ongoing development and delivery of a South West Cultural Training package delivered to more than 200 health students per year. In this role, the position holder will work from the UDRH SW building at Edith Cowan University at least one day per week, or as agreed by UDRH SW and SWAMS.
