Position: Digital Forensic Practice Manager

Reporting to: Chief Digital Forensic Scientist

Department: Digital Forensics

Job Type: Full Time (Based in Canberra)

Mission of this Role

The role of Practice Manager is multi faceted and plays a critical role in supporting forensic training, consultancy, and operational functions. This role ensures smooth coordination of training sessions, assists in forensic case preparation, and supports forensic scientists in research, documentation, and logistics. The role also involves liaising with clients, law enforcement agencies, and key stakeholders to facilitate forensic operations and enhance efficiency.

Key Responsibilities & Target Outcomes

1. Training & Facilitation Support

Assist in the development, organisation, and maintenance of digital forensic training materials, including manuals, case studies, and online resources.

Coordinate training sessions and logistics, including venue bookings, travel arrangements, and equipment setup.

Manage training schedules, participant lists, and post-training documentation, including certification issuance.

Support forensic scientists in preparing and updating training content based on emerging forensic trends.

Maintain forensic training labs and software, ensuring operational readiness for hands-on forensic exercises.

2. Consultancy & Case Preparation

Assist in preparing forensic consultancy reports, research documents, and client deliverables.

Support forensic case documentation by ensuring proper evidence handling and chain-of-custody protocols.

Collaborate with forensic scientists in conducting background research and analysis for ongoing forensic investigations.

Organise and maintain forensic case records, legal documentation, and compliance reports.

Coordinate meetings with clients, law enforcement agencies, and legal representatives.

3. General Digital Forensics & Research Support

Assist in forensic tool testing, development of case simulations, and research on emerging forensic methodologies.

Provide technical support in digital forensic extractions, forensic imaging, and analysis.

Stay updated with legal and regulatory changes in digital forensics within Australia.

Participate in forensic evidence preservation and review processes to ensure data integrity.

4. Administrative & Operational Support

Maintain and update forensic training schedules, case files, and documentation systems.

Assist with procurement and inventory management of forensic tools, software, and evidence kits.

Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations governing forensic activities.

Support forensic scientists in drafting and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • 100% accuracy in training documentation and case preparation materials.
  • Timely coordination of training sessions with all necessary resources in place.
  • Full compliance with chain-of-custody and forensic documentation standards.
  • Successful coordination of consultancy engagements with minimal errors.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with forensic scientists, clients, and law enforcement partners.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in training coordination and forensic documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, law enforcement, and forensic teams.
  • Basic understanding of digital forensics principles, evidence handling, and legal compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with forensic tools (e.g., Cellebrite, X-Ways, Autopsy, ADF Solutions).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience in training facilitation, forensic case preparation, or administrative support (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Ability to obtain NV1 security clearance (if required for government forensic work).
