Gardner Vaughan Group (GVG) is a leading builder developer in its 36th year building in Queensland’s Southeast corner. After a period of sustained growth, having pushed past 70 staff in 2024, we are looking for experienced, proactive, and hands-on HR Manager to join our team to continue to develop our people space.
We seek a doer who is highly organised, people-focused, and passionate about developing and embedding real, effective HR systems and processes to create an environment where our people can thrive.
As HR Manager, you will work closely with our HR Adviser , report directly to department directors , and collaborate with leaders, and managers across the business, and take ownership of our HR strategy and operational delivery. This is a practical leadership role where you will continuously develop, implement, and refine HR initiatives that align with business objectives.
The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:-
- Lead and enhance HR systems, processes, and policies – ensuring best practices are documented, actionable, and embedded in daily operations
- Chair the “People” and “HR” steering groups , actively shaping the strategic direction of HR within GVG
- Develop and implement structured training, development, and performance management programs , ensuring managers are equipped to lead effectively
- Provide hands-on HR leadership , fostering a positive, productive, and high-performing culture
- Support managers in proactively handling people challenges , including dispute resolution and performance management
- Collaborate with the Continuous Improvement team to drive measurable HR efficiencies and KPI improvements
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations while maintaining a practical, business-first approach
To excel in this role, you will need to be action-oriented, practical, and solutions-focused , driven to build, implement, and ensure follow-through on all initiatives.
You should have:-
- Proven experience in HR management within a mid-sized corporate environment . Experience in construction, property, or a related field is advantageous but not essential
- A hands-on approach , with a track record of developing and embedding HR systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills, ensuring HR processes run smoothly across all levels of the business
- An ability to coach and support managers , helping them proactively address performance and team development
- A practical understanding of employment laws and regulations , applying them in a way that supports both compliance and business agility
- A passion for creating a people-first workplace where staff feel supported and empowered
- A degree in Human Resources, Business (HR Management), or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
