About The Team
The City Planning Branch is responsible for long term planning and policy development to manage growth and development of our city while protecting the qualities that make Gold Coast City a great place to live. The Branch also plays a key role in formulating and delivering planning policy and maintaining effective and efficient planning instruments to manage growth and respond to the evolving needs of the community and stakeholders. The City Plan team sits within the City Planning Branch and is primarily responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the city's statutory land use planning instruments, in particular the City Plan which is the current planning scheme.
About Your New Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a senior planner to actively get involved with and work collaboratively on projects that help enhance the Gold Coast of the future. This role gives you an opportunity to work in a supportive team environment on a broad range of deliverables which will ensure your days are varied and interesting. We currently have 2 positions available.
The key role of a Senior Strategic Planner, in the City Plan team, is to contribute to policy development activities and support the preparation and maintenance of the City’s Planning scheme.
The Senior Strategic Planner also works with other policy advisors across the organisation to provide high quality specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders. The role will also require you to collaborate and consult with a range of stakeholders across the organisation, state government agencies, industry and community groups and broader community.
This role will give you the opportunity to work on a broad range of policy areas such as growth management, urban design, managing constraints (flooding, bushfire, landslide) and protection of environmental values. The City has also begun preparing the new planning scheme, which only occurs every ten years, and will provide you with a rare opportunity to enhance your plan-making skills and contribute to this important project.
We're Looking For People Who Have
Bachelor Degree of Urban and Regional Planning or Equivalent 5+ years experience as a Town Planner/Urban Planner Technical skills applicable to the role. Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal, oral and written skills as well as effective time management. Demonstrate high attention to detail, ability to analyse issues, problem solve and the ability to contribute to policy development. Strategic planning or policy experience is desirable. Development assessment experience is desirable. Demonstrated experience in successfully applying project management principles to ensure program deliverables and deadlines are met. Analytical and critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions. Positive mindset and passion for working in a dynamic environment where each day will provide new challenges.
