The Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems (Maritime) Program Office (EWIS-M SPO) Adelaide based team is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineering Manager with experience leading a team to achieve complex technical and engineering outcomes, in the area of Operational Mission Data/Countermeasure Development & Validation.
As an Engineering Professional in EWIS-M SPO, you will have exceptional stakeholder engagement; both excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to communicate and negotiation effectively across a variety of internal and Defence industry partners. You will have a proven history of exercising assigned engineering authorities and relevant Technical Regulatory Authority delegations. You will be relied upon to utilise specialist professional knowledge to assess risks associated with developmental and advanced technologies, including recommendations to mitigate technology development risk in a complex environment.
In this role you will lead, plan, co-ordinate and deliver critical and complex to very complex engineering and project activities whilst providing advice in all relevant engineering disciplines and management systems under broad direction. You will lead your team members and collaborate closely with peers delivering different but associated outcomes within the project.
The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment and the agility to realign resourcing to meet new demands. In this leadership role, you will provide support and guidance to your team to ensure they are sensitive to Defence Strategic direction and to excel, while exercising a significant degree of independence.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
EWIS-M SPO provides acquisition and sustainment support for a number of maritime electronic warfare systems and specialist signals intelligence capabilities. The SPO delivers these capabilities to both the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the United States Navy. This role will form part of the Modernisation of Maritime Electronic Warfare (MMEW) Project. The Project is the largest within EWIS-M SPO, and is critical in developing Australian sovereign technology and transforming it into capability. EWIS-MSPO operates under a continuous capability development and delivery framework to support maritime electronic warfare.
The successful applicant will participate in an integrated team, including APS, Australian Defence Force (ADF) and contractor staff, to ensure the acquired Electronic Warfare capabilities are delivered to the ADF and supported in accordance with operational and compliance requirements, budget, and service agreements.

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Skills and experience in Defence systems engineering, ideally with insight into electronic warfare or other intelligence/communications/radar/software systems;
  • The ability to manage complex system development, integration and technical regulatory requirements;
  • A thorough understanding of engineering disciplines;
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse teams in a complex environment;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to negotiate;
  • Experience in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Effective problem solving and deductive reasoning skills;
  • Sound commercial and business acumen and an understanding of the Defence Industry sector in Australia; and
  • High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives.
