About Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA)
VARA operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations throughout regional Western Australia. We are currently on a growth path and will soon be introducing the new E-jet aircraft into our fleet. This will enable us to continue to maintain a strong focus on supporting our major clients in the mining industry - the future is exciting!
Based in Perth and reporting to the Head of Training and Standards, this pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of flight crew training and the effective management of all Training Pilots.
As the Fleet Training Manager for VARA, you will play a key role in mentoring and supporting your crew, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and professional development. You will also ensure that VARA has access to a team of highly skilled and qualified Training Pilots, helping to uphold operational excellence across the group.
What you’ll be doing:
- Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and appointment of Training Pilots to support fleet operations.
- Manage the design, development and delivery of flight crew initial and recurrent training programs.
- Administer the quality assurance program for flight crew training programs
- Ensure all training activities are standardized and aligned with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain communication with CASA and other regulatory bodies as required.
- Develop and update local work instructions for fleet training roles.
- Assist the Fleet Standards Manager (FSM) in developing and maintaining operational training materials and assessment programs.
- Ensure sufficient training resources are available to meet the training schedule
- Act as a delegate for the HOTS when required.
You’ll be great in this role if you:
- Hold a CASA ATPL and a Command Qualification on company type
- A Flight Instructor Rating with TR endorsement on company type
- A minimum of 1000 hours flight time in operations on a type substantially similar to those operated by VARA
- A minimum of 500 hours command in an aircraft similar to those operated by VARA
- A minimum of 500 hours experience as a check pilot or instructor in an aircraft similar to those operated by VARA
- Significant experience in the conduct of Type Ratings for jet transport aircraft.
- A high level of operational performance
- An operational training background ideally with experience in the jet transport airline operations
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a team of experienced training and checking staff
- Demonstrated leadership capability to influence and drive positive outcomes with a diverse and remote workforce.
- Strong grasp of departmental operational policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- In-depth knowledge of safety principles, aircraft operating systems, and operational processes
- Comprehensive knowledge of Australian aviation legislation, including the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (1998) and the Manual of Standards
