About the Role:
As a Senior Industry Mentor, you’ll provide tailored mentoring and support to First Nations employees and assist employers in creating culturally safe and inclusive workplaces. You will work closely with job seekers, workplace leaders, and industry stakeholders to promote career development and long-term employment success.
This role is part of the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), with mentors specialising in one of the following industry sectors:
- Tourism & Hospitality
- Civil Construction & Mining
- Community Services (Child Care, Aged Care, Health)
- Primary Industries
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide intensive mentoring, especially during the first six months of employment, with ongoing support for up to 18 months.
- Assist employees in managing financial, personal, and social challenges that may impact employment.
- Facilitate strong peer relationships to enhance workplace support.
- Train and mentor workplace leaders to enhance their role in supporting First Nations employees.
- Collaborate with businesses to create culturally safe workplaces and implement best HR practices.
- Support skills development through workshops, training sessions, and tailored support plans.
- Maintain accurate records of mentoring activities, outcomes, and progress tracking.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and responsive engagement with First Nations employees, employers, and communities.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least two years of experience in one of the target industries (Tourism/Hospitality, Civil Construction/Mining, Community Services or Primary Industries)
- Proven experience in mentoring, coaching, or workforce development.
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of cultural, social, and economic employment barriers for First Nations peoples.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
What You’ll Need
- Current C Class Driver’s License (essential)
- Ability to travel (road and air) for short stays across the region
- National Police Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
