CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - WORLD MASTERS GAMES PERTH 2029The World Masters Games (WMG) is the largest mass-participation, international multi-sport competition in the world - Bigger in participation than the Olympics and open to amateur athletes aged over 35 years old.
The Confederation of Australian Sport and UniSport Australia have secured the right to host this event in Perth. WMG Perth 2029 will operate with a budget circa $50 million.
For twelve days in October 2029, WMG Perth 2029 will showcase 45 sporting disciplines at 45 venues across Perth, Western Australia. Up to 30,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to participate in the 2029 Games with an additional 10,000 plus spectators, volunteers, coaches, and officials also descending on Perth.
WMG Perth 2029 is supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism WA and the Federal Government as one of the major international sporting events in Australia’s green and gold runaway to the Brisbane Olympics 2032.
The CEO of the WMG Perth 2029 will be employed by World Masters Games Perth 2029 Ltd and report to its Chair and Board.
About this Role
As Chief Executive Officer of World Masters Games Perth 2029, you will be the driving force behind the planning and delivery of this event, ensuring a world-class experience for athletes, stakeholders, and the local community.
You will build and lead a high-performing team of employees, contract staff, and volunteers that will scale up over the next four years to successfully deliver this major international event.
This high-profile leadership role requires strategic vision, operational excellence, and a commitment to outstanding stakeholder engagement.
With significant State and Federal government funding already secured, the CEO will also be responsible for building other commercial partnerships, ensuring financial sustainability, and delivering an event that leaves a lasting legacy for Western Australia and global Masters sport.
About You
You will be a proven leader with extensive experience delivering large-scale sporting events or aligned major projects, preferably with an international component. You will also possess advanced commercial acumen, political nous, and an ability to inspire others.
Additionally, you will have:
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with an ability to navigate dynamic government, commercial, and sporting relationships.
- Experience managing large scale funding and sponsorship agreements.
- Expertise in financial management, risk mitigation, and compliance within a large-scale project setting.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication and media management skills.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, integrity, collaboration, and excellence.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (such as business, event management, sports administration) are highly desirable.
