Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Chef to manage the day-to-day kitchen operations at Basket Brothers. This role requires a strong understanding of food preparation, kitchen organisation, and team management. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality food standards, consistency in flavours, and timely service. You will have the opportunity to bring creative input to the menu, maintain efficient kitchen workflows, and uphold food safety and hygiene regulations. This is a hands-on role that demands strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced café environment.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes following the café's menu and standards.
- Oversee kitchen operations to ensure food is prepared efficiently and consistently.
- Monitor portion sizes and presentation to maintain quality standards.
- Assist in menu planning by introducing creative and seasonal dishes.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and WHS regulations.
- Manage stock levels, place orders, and monitor kitchen inventory.
- Train and supervise junior kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to best kitchen practices.
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace, following all sanitation and hygiene guidelines.
- Work efficiently under pressure, particularly during peak service times.
- Collaborate with the Front staff and management team to improve kitchen efficiency and customer satisfaction.
About You:
- Strong understanding of kitchen safety, food hygiene, and workplace health regulations.
- Ability to prepare meals efficiently while maintaining consistency in taste and presentation.
- Comfortable managing busy kitchen operations and working under pressure.
- Experience in a high-volume café or restaurant setting.
- Good organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to train and support junior staff.
- Passionate about food quality, with an eye for detail in meal presentation.
- Proactive in maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a chef is required, with additional experience considered advantageous.
- Diploma of Hospitality including Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- Credential in health and safety training.
