  • This position will be based in our Noble Park office, however may work across Melbourne metro to support client needs
  • Support newly arrived clients to settle into accommodation
  • Annual salary is $70,561 + 11.5% super

About the role

We are seeking applications for an Accommodation Officer position, to provide support to newly arrived clients in settling into accommodation on arrival and also finding and securing affordable long term accommodation in the South East of Melbourne.

To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

  • Minimum 1 years' experience in assisting CALD clients to find accommodation
  • A current valid Working with Children Check (Employee) for Victoria
  • A current valid Driver's Licence for Victoria, and access to your own car
  • Ability and willingness to work across the Melbourne Metropolitan area as required by client demand
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake housing and/or tenancy work and demonstrated understanding of relevant tenancy legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver information to small groups, particularly from CALD backgrounds
  • Ability to manage realistic client expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with CALD communities
  • Effective interpersonal, cross cultural communication and client advocacy skills and the ability to liaise effectively with contractual partners, mainstream and settlement service providers as well as refugee/ humanitarian clients and their communities, and volunteers
  • Proficiency in a relevant community language desirable (language as applicable to program)
  • Sound understanding of current Commonwealth and State policies related to housing, immigration, settlement, income support and other relevant social policies and demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to changing policy and program needs
  • Demonstrated experience in working autonomously as well as collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams to achieve / exceed key performance goals
  • Strong written communication, report writing and word processing skills
  • Organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with IT standard software such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and ability to use Internet and e-mail and other online products
  • Knowledge of and ability to use safe manual handing techniques
  • Working knowledge of policies and referral protocols relating to housing and tenancy
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism consistent with the AMES Australia Vision and demonstrated commitment to performance management, quality and continuous improvement principles
  • Course in Real Estate Agents Representative or Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) is desirable
