THE ABRA PROJECTAn exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join the Mining Engineering team at Abra Mining Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) and contribute to the Company's next phase of growth and operational excellence.
The Abra Mine, located 220 km north of Meekatharra in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, is one of the world’s cleanest and largest standalone lead-silver projects. The mine produces between 90–100ktpa of lead and 600–800koz of silver per year. With a mine life of 10+ years, Abra has successfully transitioned to steady-state production volumes after completing construction and commissioning in late 2022.
This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the sustainable development of a world-class operation.
The underground ore mined is processed through a conventional processing plant, to produce a high-grade lead-silver concentrate that is exported via the Geraldton Port.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, as Senior Mining Engineer , you will be responsible for ensuring short, medium, and long term mine plans are implemented to optimise the life of mine and enable the business to meet its long and short-term objectives in terms of safety, production and cost.
In addition, the Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for
- Preparing forecasts and develop mining strategy with assistance from the Mining – Geology department and Production Engineers.
- Ensuring integrity and security of all data stored on the mine planning software systems.
- Development of mine design, planning guidelines and strategies to optimise mining processes.
- Development planning incorporating the short, medium, and long-term planning requirements.
- Overseeing the preparation of schedules to meet the forecasts.
- Supervising the preparation of development Mine Instructions to facilitate the schedules.
- Compilation of forecasts and Life of Mine plans.
- Management of the preparation of short-term schedules and assist Production Engineers with implementation of designs.
- Supervising the preparation and approval of mine development Mine Instructions.
- Reviewing costs for Life of Mine Plan and develop cut-off grades for Ore Reserve Estimations.
- Finalising unit cost calculations for estimation purposes and educate all production and technical underground staff.
- Ensuring business success by developing, implementing and recording mine information to ensure safe and economic target delivery.
- Active participation in preparing forecasts and developing mining strategies in collaboration with Technical Services Team and Mining Contractors.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives across safety, workforce planning, underground processes, reporting, and contractor management.
You will have required mining industry experience with a broad range of underground mining technical and management skills, pursuant to the role.
Your current and past reports would describe you as an inspiring and motivating leader who fosters close working relationships with employees and contractors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
- Current “C” Class Western Australian driver’s license
- WA First Class Mine Managers Ticket (desirable).
- Advanced computer literacy and business software knowledge of mine planning systems and software (e.g., Deswik).
- Sound understanding of the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act.
- Sound comprehension of mine design standards and procedures.
- Minimum 5 years of mining industry experience with a broad range of underground mining technical and management skills.
- Advanced computer literacy and business software skills; mine planning systems and software (e.g., Deswik) will be considered favourably.
- Proven leadership and communication skills, including contractor management.
- Ability to communicate with a confident and compelling message to a wide range of stakeholders
- Established approach on being able to effectively source, gather, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data.
- Evidence in driving high performance across diverse teams.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and capability.
