About the Opportunity
We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated Venue General Manager to lead the successful management of Stadiums Tasmania venues in Northern Tasmania (UTAS Stadium and the Silverdome). The General Manager - Northern Venues will be responsible for ensuring high-quality customer experiences, assist with the attraction of events, the safe and secure delivery of event activities, venue health and safety for staff and patrons, contract providers, digital equipment, and its utilisation whilst maximising stadium occupancy and financial returns.
The General Manager – Northern Venues will need to be adept at building and maintaining relationships and meeting the needs of a diverse stakeholder group, balancing the management of elite, community and commercial usage of the stadium.

Major Duties
- Provide strong and effective leadership, development and support to the UTAS Stadium and Silverdome staff, promoting and shaping a venue culture consistent with Stadiums Tasmania values.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Stadiums Tasmania portfolio through strategic leadership, working collaboratively with cross-functional leaders and teams to achieve Stadiums Tasmania's strategic objectives.
- Initiate and grow community connection with the venue through the development of local partnerships and collaborative event content planning with local council, Tourism Tasmania, Events Tasmania and local businesses and community groups.
- Contribute to the development of the Stadiums Tasmania Strategic Plan, through the development, implementation and effective measurement of venue-specific strategic, business, and operational plans.
- End-to-end management of all contracts associated with the UTAS Stadium and the Silverdome, including relevant operating agreements, leases and contracts with major venue users, hirers and service providers to ensure all parties are aware of their rights and obligations and operate by sound commercial principles in order to achieve Stadiums Tasmania’s strategic objectives.
- End-to-end management in the development of new business in the area of sport and entertainment suitable to the venue and compatible with purpose to ensure the financial viability of the Venue.
- Lead the implementation of Stadiums Tasmania WHS and Security frameworks and the development of WHS and security culture at the venue.
- End-to-end management of a suite of organisational, administrative and operational functions and systems of the venue to ensure the ongoing successful delivery of major events.
- In conjunction with the venue’s key stakeholders, develop venue budgets and capital works and maintenance programs for Board approval, and implement in accordance with Stadium financial and policy compliance requirements ensuring delivery within budget.
- Manage the development, implementation, application, compliance and review of Stadiums Tasmania venue policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Develop and present complex executive reports and briefings to stakeholders including Stadiums Tasmania Executive, the Stadiums Tasmania Board, Committees and the Minister in relation to the operations of the Venue.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with Stadiums Tasmania policies and procedures and support the development of necessary resources and training to enable compliance, by all venue staff.
- Undertake special project tasks at the discretion of the Executive Team.
Key Success Factors
The role will require someone who is both strategic and hands-on with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines at once. They will be a great communicator and be proactive in identifying system and venue improvement opportunities for Stadiums Tasmania. In addition to demonstrating relevant experiences across the core functional areas of responsibility identified above, the successful candidates will require the below:
- High level or demonstrated experience at a senior level in Venue Management, including the management of operations and events, activities and services at a large or multi-purpose venue.
- Exceptional and proven people leadership and management capabilities.
- Experience developing a positive and constructive team culture and leading a diverse team to achieve quality service delivery outcomes.
- Detailed understanding of all elements of major event delivery including staffing requirements, traffic management, ticketing, security, cleaning, broadcast, venue presentation, crowd management and customer experience.
- Strong level or stakeholder relationship skills, partnered with high-level experience in achieving customer service outcomes.
- Strong level of communication skills, particularly, oral, written, presentation, and influencing skills in a variety of internal and external business and community environments.
- High level of demonstrated experience in the end-to-end delivery of a range of relevant financial information and reports.
- High level of experience in the range of general principles and practice of financial budgeting and management in a commercial environment.
- Experience negotiating commercial contracts of significant value.
- Action orientated, adaptable and innovative approach to business planning and execution.
- Ability to set priorities, plan work programs, meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
- A risk mitigation/management mindset in all aspects of preparing Venues and managing events, including experience in identifying risks through formal risk workshop processes and acting upon mitigation strategies.
- Ability to apply portfolio-wide thinking and decision-making whilst balancing venue and community-specific needs.
- Highly goal-orientated with a strong focus on delivery, structure, organisation, and inclusiveness.
- High level of personal and professional integrity.
- High energy, enthusiasm and drive, inspiring others to achieve.
- A broad understanding of the Tasmanian and Australian sports and major events landscape.
- Experience or a desire to build on your ability to present to Boards and senior leaders and succinctly communicate issues.

Qualifications and or Experience
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g Business, Commerce, Management) or equivalent experience
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in Venue management or operations at a senior level
- Current Chief Warden certificate
- Satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People Card
- Satisfactory Police Check
