About Nothern Health:
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

About Mental Health Division:
Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern. Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles. We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.
About Noogal Clinic Community Team:
The Noogal Clinic Community Team (based in Mill Park) provides mental health services to adults experiencing mental ill health requiring assessment, treatment, care and coordination services within an integrated model. The team utilises a recovery focused, bio-psychosocial service delivery framework which includes peer support. The team focuses on providing services alongside consumers, families, carers, and other clinical and support services. The team consists of nursing, allied health, medical and lived experience, who work together to provide a high standard of care. Lived experience expertise is highly sought after and complements the professional knowledge and skills of clinical staff.
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Family/Carer Peer Support Worker to join the team at Northern Health.
You will provide peer support to the families and carers attending our Noogal Clinic Community Team by utilising their own lived experience of caring for a loved one with mental health challenges and accessing mental health services.
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and leadership to embed peer support at the clinic by providing one on one and group support to families, including provision of emotional support, advocacy, information about navigating the mental health system, and linkage to relevant community services for carers and families.
This position is based at Noogal Clinic Community Mental Health Team – Mill Park working 0.4 EFT ( to work two days a week).
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A personal lived experience as a carer of someone who has/is experiencing mental ill health and accessing mental health services (ideally within public mental health services)
- A relevant understanding of public mental health services and the mental health system
- Be willing and able to mutually support families and carers with their own wellbeing and resilience whilst they support the recovery of their loved one;
- Be a team player who is collaborative and motivated to work within a holistic multidisciplinary team
- Well-developed communication, organization, time management and computer skills
