Description:

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill multiple vacancies of Operations and Operations Support, Various Roles (APS3) , in the Data Sourcing Division.

Successful applicants can work either full-time or part-time hours from one of our offices located in either Belconnen, Docklands or Geelong, although a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.

About the roles

  1. Senior Survey Officer – Data Sourcing Contact Centre (DSCC) (Geelong)
    Senior Survey Officers are responsible for supporting APS2 Survey Officers, acting as the first escalation point in DSCC and completing higher priority and more complex work on surveys.
  2. Specialist Senior Survey Officer – Data Sourcing Contact Centre (Geelong)
    Specialist Senior Survey Officers work on business surveys that have specialist systems or processes and act as a referral point for this work for our APS 2 Survey Officers in the contact centre.
  3. Data Capture Officer - Despatch and Capture Unit (DCU) (Geelong - office based only due to nature of the role)
    The Data Capture Officer undertakes tasks as per structured, appropriate-to-level training that requires teamwork, some level of judgement, and following set procedures and guidelines. They collect Management Information (MI) and populate necessary documents and spreadsheets. They may be called upon to work on ad-hoc or special projects such as Management Information enhancement and process documentation.
  4. Despatch Officer – Despatch and Capture Unit (DCU) - (Geelong - office based only due to nature of the role)
    The Despatch Officer focuses on the daily work program delivery of outgoing physical despatches such as Provider and Field Interviewer survey materials. This role involves a combination of desk-based work and active engagement in a production room environment.
  5. Administrative Support Officer – HSO Support and Compliance (Geelong)
    Administrative Support Officers are responsible for administrative tasks and support of the operational interviewer workforce.
  6. Senior Survey Officer – Despatch and Capture Unit (DCU) - Provider Engagement Team (PET) (Canberra, Geelong and Melbourne)
    The Senior Survey Officer undertakes case-style management of a subset of the ABS's most statistically significant business survey providers, assisting them to meet the business' needs and minimise burden while ensuring compliance with survey deadlines and promoting high-quality data outcomes.

What we are looking for (selection criteria)

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including phone skills.
  • Customer service experience, including demonstrated ability to resolve enquiries from members of the public.
  • Ability to work as part of a team that may be geographically dispersed, in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Strong record keeping skills with an ability to accurately document conversations, decisions and actions.
  • Good proficiency with I.T systems e.g., Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to understand and follow relevant processes and procedures.
Eligibility

To be eligible for these roles you:

  • You must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
  • You may need to obtain (or hold) and maintain at least a Baseline security clearance.
  • ABS employees who have access to market sensitive information are restricted in market trading activities. You may not be allowed to trade in financial products while employed. Some of these roles are restricted in trading.
  • In the Data Sourcing Contact Centre our operating hours are 8:45am to 7pm (AEST) and 8pm (AEDT). While most DSCC roles finish at 4:45pm on a regular basis, some roles may occasionally require staff to work flexibly to the later finish times.
