Spinifex State College Boarding Campus is seeking a Chief Cook to join the team and work with another Chief Cook with a variety of catering activities in the dining room. Breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea, dinner and supper will need to be planned through the menu which we are looking to expand for the students.

The students range in age from 11 years to 18 years old and attend school during the day and stay here during the term, on weekends and public holidays. There is always plenty of food to prepare for teenagers and we are looking for variety in the menu.

This job involves shift and weekend work. Successful applicants will require a current first aid certificate, CPR, a Working with Children Blue Card.

About the School:

Spinifex State College - Mount Isa opened in 2003 after community consultation determined that the two previous state high schools - Mount Isa State High School and Kalkadoon State High School - should merge.

Spinifex State College - Mount Isa is a three campus educational facility. Commencing 2015 junior campus will cater to years 7-9, senior campus years 10-12 and the residential campus.

The Residential Campus is an Education Queensland initiative that provides a living away from home opportunity for rural and remote area secondary students from Queensland. The Residential Campus was established in January 2003 and has the capacity for up to 45 students. Students in years 7, 8 and 9 attend Spinifex State College Junior Campus and students in years 10, 11and 12 attend Spinifex State College Senior Campus.

About the Role:

The Chief Chef will join with another chef and assume responsibility for the team working with them to provide nutritious a healthy meals for teenagers ranging from 11-18 yeaqrs old.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing an intersting, varied yet nutritious menu
  • Ordering all the necessary ingredients
  • Ensuring all Work Place Health and Safety guidelines are followed in the preparation of food and meals.
  • Modelling appropriate techniques to Kitchen Hands
  • Ensure meals are served on time, cleaninig up is completed to a high standard and all foodstuffs are either disposed of or wrapped and stored for futire use.
  • Maintenance requirements of all equipment must be overseen by the Chief Chef and reported to the Business manager or Facilities Officer.

School holidays are negotiated depending on student's needs such as attendance at TAFE or Work Experience for example.

The Chief Cook is line managed by the Head of Campus.
