Spinifex State College Boarding Campus is seeking 2 Senior Student Support Workers.
One will assist in overseeing pastoral care, monitor health and well-being and behaviour of adolescents, organize activities and oversee risk assessments and support the team to lead and coach staff in working with teenagers.
The other will have a significant role in the daily supervision and monitoring of the students.
They will be line managed by the Head of Living. This job involves shift and weekend work.
Successful applicants will require a current first aid certificate, CPR, a Working with Children Blue Card and a Light Rigid Driver's license or a willingness to obtain a light rigid license. A tertiary qualification in social work, community services or working with children is preferred but not mandatory. Previous experience working with secondary aged students is preferred.

About the School:

Spinifex State College is a three campus educational facility. Our Junior Campus caters to years 7-9, Senior Campus years 10-12 and the Residential Campus houses all boarding students.

The Residential Campus is an Education Queensland initiative that provides a living away from home opportunity for rural and remote area secondary students from Queensland. The Residential Campus was established in January 2003 and has the capacity for up to 45 students. Students in years 7, 8 and 9 attend Spinifex State College Junior Campus and students in years 10, 11and 12 attend Spinifex State College Senior Campus.

About the Role:

As Senior Student Support Worker you will:

  • operationally supervise the day-to-day activities of the Boarding Campus to ensure a safe and secure residential environment for students to reside.
  • Jointly manage the roster and work activities of assigned Student Support Workers and in the absence of the Head of Residential Campus, assist in managing and co-ordinating the activities of all staff and students.
  • Liaise with the students, school and parents on a regular basis to recognise any social, emotional or behaviour problems.
  • The Senior Student Support Workers are directly responsible to the Head of Training and the Head of Learning and ultimately to teh Had of Campus
  • You must have had some experience in working with adolescents, in particular First Nation students who make up teh majority of our boarders.
  • Cultural awareness is also highly desired.

This facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the school terms.

The Boarding Campus closes during the school holidays and staff can accrue ADOs to cover these holidays.
