Chisholm is seeking an experienced Apprenticeship Support officer to join our Apprenticeship Support team on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2025.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Apprenticeship Support Officer is accountable to provide contact, information and referral services to assist apprentices with issues and information to support the successful participation and completion of the apprenticeship undertaken under the guidelines of the Victorian Government’s Department of Training and Education.

The role is responsible for working professionally with employees at all levels and relevant stakeholders including employers, apprenticeship network providers and relevant training providers to deliver an integrated apprenticeship support service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a caseload of apprentices for a specified district, providing ongoing support for apprentices identified as requiring mentoring and support to improve student retention
  • Act as a key liaison and advisor to apprentices during the early stages of their apprenticeship by promoting the program and providing information and guidance
  • Assist apprentices, and advocate on their behalf if required, to quickly resolve issues arising with stakeholders in that relationship
  • Provide mentoring and support whilst referring apprentices to liaise with personal support agencies such as counselling, welfare services, learning and disability support within the scope of relevant legislations and privacy act
  • Work with out-of-trade apprentices to assist them in obtaining sustainable and long-term employment
  • Develop and maintain a strong customer-focused approach to the delivery of timely, accurate and appropriate information and expert advice to various stakeholders
  • Manage and record the individual progress of apprentices while pursuing agreed strategies to enhance retention and apprenticeship completion.
  • Represent the ASO program and Chisholm in a professional manner at all times and nurture the reputation of the program

ABOUT YOU

You are a highly motivated individual with-
  • Sound knowledge and familiarity of the Victorian Vocational Education and Training sector including the role of RTOs and Australian Apprenticeship Support Networks
  • Highly developed communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with experience in mentoring and advocacy
  • Well-developed customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and to use own initiative
  • Demonstrated clear, concise and authoritative written communication skills to produce a variety of complex reports on sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated skills in counselling or youth development, including those from disadvantaged groups
  • The ability to travel statewide to assist with HESG special projects, where required
  • The ability to respond to emergency situations that occur during out of hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence

Qualifications required for the role:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and related industry experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training
