The Role

As Head of Workplace Health & Safety, reporting to APM’s Chief Risk and Legal Officer, you will lead the strategic direction for workplace health and safety at APM in Australia and New Zealand, ensuring alignment with operational goals and legislative requirements across several disciplines.
This is a full-time opportunity that can be based in any of APM’s West Perth, Sydney, Melbourne or Geelong locations (other locations considered for the right candidate).
In this role you will:
- Develop and execute safety strategy in alignment with business’ objectives across Australia and New Zealand.
- Oversee safety performance metrics, audits and trend analysis to assist in prevention of hazards and mitigation of impacts.
- Take a direct role in emergency response procedures, assisting the business to deal with critical incidents.
- Engage with stakeholders across multiple levels, from operations to senior leadership on safety matters, working closely with a wide group of stakeholders to drive a safety-first culture.
- Ensure compliance with both local and relevant international safety regulations, keeping up to date on industry developments and integrating industry best practices.
- Engage with the business on their Business Continuity Plans and recovery processes
- Manage and mentor the safety team, ensuring alignment with strategic safety goals.
Skills you’ll bring:
- At least 10 years’ experience in safety leadership, preferably within a health or human services environment.
- A deep understanding of ANZ safety regulations and standards.
- A degree or certification in Occupational Health and Safety or related area.
- Effective critical thinking skills for data analysis and continuous improvement.
- Excellent ability to communicate with and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management and regulatory bodies.
- A current driver’s license and the capacity to travel within Australia and New Zealand.
