Description:
As part of our commitment to fostering meaningful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation, we are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Engagement Coordinator to join the recently awarded $1 billion Tonkin Extension Alliance project. Based at our project office south of the river, this role is integral to maximising employment, retention, and training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while ensuring strong engagement with key stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Reporting to our Community and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will be responsible for
- Developing and implementing strategies to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and training.
- Mentoring trainees, apprentices, and employees to support retention and career growth .
- Coordinating Cultural Awareness Training and ensuring project teams are equipped with the knowledge to foster an inclusive workplace.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, businesses, and government agencies to drive engagement.
- Providing support in sourcing Aboriginal suppliers and subcontractors
- Ensuring compliance with employment and procurement targets while providing regular reporting and status updates.
- Coordinating a Project specific Traditional Owner Working Group in consultation with the Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation.
What you are good at:
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within the construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and histories, particularly in the project's region.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills to support multiple engagement initiatives.
