As the Principal Policy Officer, you will have the opportunity to lead and support legislative reforms on primary and subordinate laws across a wide variety of health-related areas. What you'll do
- Manage primary and subordinate legislation projects across the health portfolio, individually and as part of a project team. This includes liaising with departmental subject matter experts, preparing Cabinet submissions, briefings, drafting instructions and explanatory materials; instructing Parliamentary Counsel; consulting internal and external stakeholders and developing written materials to support introduction, Parliamentary Committee and debate processes (for primary legislation) and Governor-in-Council consideration (for subordinate legislation).
- Prepare high quality and timely briefing notes, ministerial communications, reports, submissions and correspondence about legislative projects and issues.
- Undertake legislative policy reviews, analyse and report on submissions, and develop briefing and issues papers requiring a high degree of research and technical expertise.
About you
We are searching for someone who:
- Experience developing legislative reforms, or legal or policy experience and an understanding of the legislative development process.
- Proven skills in researching and analysing complex legislative policy issues and providing high quality and timely advice to management in relation to those issues.
- Demonstrated high-level written communication skills, including the ability to research and prepare significant policy documents, discussion papers, submissions and explanatory material for the legislative process.
- While not mandatory, a relevant qualification in Law would be well regarded.
