Description:

Governance Officer

  • Salary: $95,102 - $107,905 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Ongoing role, full time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)

This is a prioritised position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with the Special Measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given priority consideration for this role .

For the purpose of employment in Aboriginal Designated or Aboriginal Prioritised positions within the Victorian public sector, candidates will be asked to provide Confirmation of Aboriginality. This can be confirmed by a Confirmation of Aboriginality form signed by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and affixed with the common seal of that organisation. Recognising that access to formal Confirmation of Aboriginality documents can occasionally be problematic, an alternative process can be discussed.

Working alongside the Manager, Strategy and Engagement, the Governance Officer role will work closely with the Yuma Yirramboi Council Koori Caucus and Caucus Chairperson.

As the Governance Officer, you will provide support and strategic advice to members of the Koori Caucus. You will demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team and building strong working relationships with the members of the Koori Caucus and other Aboriginal stakeholders.

  • Provide operational and administrative support to the team, Koori Caucus, and subcommittees, including assistance in procurement, invoice processing, document control, and tracking.

The Team

The position of Governance Officer forms a part of the Aboriginal Economic Development branch within the Economic Policy, Projects and Coordination group.

The Economic Policy, Projects and Coordination group supports DJSIR ministers, the Secretary and Executive Board with evidence-based policy advice for sustainable economic development and employment growth, supported by expertise in project design and delivery, data analytics and evaluation. The group actively partners with other DJSIR groups, Victorian departments and key stakeholders in pursuit of the department's self-determination objectives.

The Aboriginal Economic Development (AED) branch leads work across the department to support Aboriginal self-determination through employment and economic development. It oversees coordination and engagement with DJSIR's Aboriginal Partnership entity, the Yuma Yirramboi Council, and leads implementation of Yuma Yirramboi (Invest for Tomorrow) – the State's shared vision with Victorian Aboriginal communities to achieve economic parity between First Peoples and non-Aboriginal Victorians within a generation.

About You

To succeed in this role, candidates must have:

  • A sound understanding of project management.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with the Victorian Koori community, Aboriginal businesses, and organisations.
