Brisbane Full-day Full-time

Description:

As the Executive Director Policy and Statutory Planning (PSP), you will be empowered to take a fresh proactive look at how the Planning Group improves and delivers the frameworks that drive planning outcomes across the State. You will have a strong role in ensuring Queensland’s planning system remains relevant and responsive to a changing operating environment and emerging issues. You will be responsible for a policy agenda that gives effect to state interests in the planning framework; supports opportunities to reduce and remove regulation; provides clarity in relation to the separation of state and local issues and is aligned with performance-based outcomes.

We want you to be a part of a team that is making a difference by developing and managing the policy framework to support Queensland's planning and development assessment system. The branch focuses on driving creative and innovative approaches for improving and enhancing the regulatory and legislative environment and policy settings for planning, through ongoing planning policy programs and initiatives; and engaging with stakeholders and other users of the system.

You Will

  • Manage and provide strategic leadership and direction to the team in giving effect to government policy through the planning system. This includes the consideration of

emerging trends and issues to inform policy development.

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the team in preparing timely and expert operational advice on legislation comprising the Queensland planning framework, and other legislation that intersects with the framework.
  • Work across the department and wider government to support the alignment of the government's policy agenda in the day-to-day operation and delivery of land use planning. Identify opportunities to ensure policy issues of interest to the state are managed through the most appropriate and effective planning tool.
  • Coordinate planning policy responses to discussion papers and the department's weekly cabinet agenda and lead legislative reform packages on behalf of Planning Group.
  • Respond to complex policy issues with pragmatic solutions and advice that reflects the department's view on the issue.
  • Undertake complex liaison and negotiation on planning matters that are of strategic importance to the department and the government, particularly through developing

effective partnerships with other government agencies and nongovernment organisations at the local, state and national levels.

  • Represent the department at a senior level in a range of government, private sector and community forums.
  • Positively contribute to the team environment at branch, division and organisational levels including direct supervision of staff, commitment and contribution to continuous improvement, a collaborative culture and an achievement focused team that accomplishes division and organisational objectives.

Applications will remain current for a period of 12 months.
