About the Role
As Senior Gas Originator, you will take a lead role in identifying, negotiating, and closing structured wholesale gas deals with customers, counterparties, and partners. The position will involve complex transaction structuring, risk assessment, and relationship development, particularly with industrial users, pipeline operators, and infrastructure investors.
Your work will directly contribute to the optimisation of the organisation’s gas portfolio and its long-term energy contracting position across the East and West Coast.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate structured wholesale gas transactions across key counterparties and customer segments
- Manage all stages of transaction development—from origination through to financial close
- Develop and maintain commercial relationships with large industrial customers, retailers, and infrastructure operators
- Structure innovative commercial offers that align with gas portfolio strategy and risk appetite
- Collaborate closely with legal, credit, and risk to manage transaction execution
- Lead negotiation of Gas Supply Agreements (GSA), Transportation Agreements and Swap deals
- Monitor market trends and customer behaviour to identify new commercial opportunities
- Contribute to strategic planning and scenario modelling for long-term gas portfolio management
- Drive internal alignment between trading, business development, and investment teams
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and prudential requirements across deals
- Mentor junior team members and support knowledge sharing across commercial functions
- Deep understanding of Australian gas markets, regulatory landscape, and infrastructure dynamics
- Proven experience in gas origination, commercial negotiations, or structured energy transactions
- Strong network across energy users, traders, and infrastructure participants
- Experience structuring long-term gas deals including physical and financial instruments
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and financial modelling skills
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and execute high-value deals
- Relevant qualifications in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Law or similar
