About the Role
As Manager – Energy Markets, you will take full accountability for the company’s wholesale energy market interface and trading outcomes. Leading a multidisciplinary team across trading, portfolio management, risk, and pricing, you’ll oversee daily energy procurement decisions, hedge execution, market reporting, and the design of commercial strategies that support pricing competitiveness and margin stability. You will work closely with the CEO, CFO, and Head of Sales to align market positioning with broader business performance and customer growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead wholesale energy procurement, spot and hedge trading, and market interface across NEM
- Develop and execute risk and hedging strategies to optimise financial outcomes and manage exposures
- Oversee pricing strategy and margin setting to support competitive offers and portfolio growth
- Deliver forecasting, modelling, and scenario analysis to inform trading and business strategy
- Lead risk management across market exposures, counterparty positions, and trading limits
- Manage settlement, compliance, and regulatory reporting with AEMO and relevant market bodies
- Support commercial deal structuring for large C&I customers and strategic partnerships
- Provide board-level insights and reporting on market trends, risks, and opportunities
- Collaborate with sales and customer teams to shape offers aligned to portfolio strategy
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, analytics, and decision-making tools for trading and pricing
- Represent the business in regulatory forums, industry engagements, and strategic external relationships
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team across trading, risk, and pricing
- Deep knowledge of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) and C&I energy retail dynamics
- Proven experience in wholesale energy trading, portfolio management, or risk within a market-facing role
- Strong understanding of hedge markets, contracting structures, and financial risk instruments
- Track record of leadership in pricing, analytics, or commercial strategy in an energy context
- Advanced Excel and modelling skills; experience with ETRM systems, market data platforms preferred
- Excellent communication and commercial acumen, with experience presenting to executives and boards
- Experience managing cross-functional teams with a strategic and hands-on approach
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, finance, engineering, economics, or related discipline
