The Program Design Group is responsible for programs, payments and service design elements across:- social welfare
- child support
- health
- veterans
- aged care sectors.
Program Officer (APS5)
Program Officers support the Senior Program Officer and play a crucial role in the delivery of new and existing programs and payments.
They analyse relevant legislation and policy, provide advice and guidance to stakeholders, and maintain communication products such as websites and training materials.
They attend workshops and meetings, contribute to staff development through leadership and mentoring, and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project and program delivery.
Senior Program Officer (APS6)
With limited direction from their Assistant Director, Senior Program Officers take a lead role in the delivery of new and existing programs and payments. Senior Program Officers provide expert advice derived from research and experience and build relationships both internal and external to bring resources together and deliver.
They supervise, mentor and coach staff and drive a culture which embeds APS values and achieves results.
The key duties of the position include

- Analysing relevant legislation and policy and providing advice and guidance to stakeholders for complex program issues as required.
- Supporting the delivery of project and program measures, including contributing to budget measures and identification of business transformation opportunities.
- Maintenance of communication products, including website, operational instructions, letters, forms, factsheets and training material.
- Attending internal and inter-agency workshops and meetings.
- Contributing to leadership, coaching and mentoring to support development of staff capability
- Maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of projects, program services, contribute to service delivery capability and promote the agency's services
- Providing accurate and timely input into executive communication, including but limited to ministerial correspondence, costings, Ombudsman and executive briefs.
- Performing independent research and analysis for qualitative and quantitative data to present findings, information or recommendations to support senior staff and inform strategic decision making.
- Analysing relevant legislation and policy and providing high-level advice and guidance to stakeholders for complex program issues as required.
- Supporting the delivery of project and program measures, including contributing to budget measures and identification of business transformation opportunities.
- Providing expertise to the maintenance of communication products, including website, operational instructions, letters, forms, factsheets and training material.
- Leading and attending internal and inter-agency workshops and meetings.
- Providing leadership to develop staff capability through coaching, mentoring, and on the job support
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of projects, program services, contribute to service delivery capability and promote the agency's services
- Providing accurate and timely input into executive communication, including but limited to ministerial correspondence, costings, Ombudsman and executive briefs.
- Leading independent research and analysis for qualitative and quantitative data to present findings, information or recommendations to support the executive and inform strategic decision making.
