As an Inspector of Explosives, you will be involved in providing a range of regulatory and compliance services to the explosives industry through inspections, audits, and investigations to support the achievement of the Explosives Inspectorate's operational objectives.

The role supports explosives safety and security in Queensland through timely responses to incidents, recovery, and disposal involving explosives and fireworks within the wider community.

The Explosives Inspector will perform duties under the Explosives Act 1999 and Explosives Regulation 2017, including powers to:

  • Enter and search premises (section 83);
  • Inspect explosives and facilities.
  • Seize explosives.
  • Require information production.
  • Issue directions on contraventions or dangerous situations.
  • Take actions to ensure safety.
  • Monitor, audit, and inspect explosives activities per the Explosives Inspectorate program, taking corrective actions as needed.


Activities Include

  • Handling explosives in mines and quarries, and on construction sites;
  • Use of fireworks;
  • Import, manufacture, storage, transport, sale, and export of explosives, fireworks, and ammunition.
  • Licensing across the explosive's lifecycle and for individuals like shotfirers and fireworks operators.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of government magazines.
  • Participate in the regional explosives inspectorate's emergency response program, available 24/7 for render-safe, recovery, and disposal services.
  • Prepare reports on investigations, audits, inspections, and legislative breaches, with recommendations and actions.
  • Contribute to projects supporting operational objectives, including assessing and recommending on licence/permit applications.
