ABOUT THE ROLEProvocatus is an Australian and Veteran Owned medical and pharmaceutical company focused on delivering excellence in healthcare to ADF Veterans. We are entering an exciting period of technological innovation and as such, have an opportunity for a Junior Software Engineer to join our growing team. This role will be crucial in assisting to design, develop and implement software as part of our technology strategy. Under the guidance of the Chief Technology Officer, the Junior Software Engineer will be required to understand the user's needs and translate them into technical requirements. The Junior Software Engineer will assist to design the overall architecture of the software requirements, and work with programmers on coding tasks to ensure that the final product meets the user's expectations.There will also be a requirement for this role to assist with writing and testing code for various applications, fix bugs, and contribute to the development of software features and system integrations.
There is an expectation that the Junior Software Engineer will be constantly learning and adapting to new programming languages and technologies, growing their technical and collaborative skills, and supporting the overall goals and objectives of the organisation.
RESPONSIBILITIESSupport the CTO with the software development life cycle (SDLC), including gathering requirements, designing solutions and overseeing the implementation of new technologies.Work closely with analysts and designers in the technology team along with users (internal and external) to help design and develop the technical solutions.Ensure software developments meet quality assurance and security requirements.Develop functional tests to ensure software developments behave as expected and conduct root-cause analysis of production errors.Respond to ad hoc support inquiries from the team who are using automated solutions.Producing detailed technical specifications and writing software code.Assist with the maintenance of the global technology architecture in the business.Research and learn new technologies as they emerge and understand how they can positively impact the on-going operation of the technology function for the wider.Report the status of ongoing projects in a timely manner to the CTO via established reporting tools.Assist with the production of training materials for users.Support staff and users with their use of the systems and platforms delivered by the technology function
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEB.Sc. in Computer Science or related engineering field.Minimum 2 years of experience in software development or operations engineering.Established skills in at least one programming language, ideally C# and ASP.NET Core.Experience in consuming REST APIs and handling authentication.Internet UI skills, primarily HTML, CSS and JavaScript.Experience in the design and implementation of relational databases, ideally Microsoft SQL Server.An awareness of building and deploying cloud-based platforms, ideally within Microsoft Azure.Knowledge or experience of working with Agile methodologies, ideally SCRUM.An understanding and practical experience of unit testing methodologies and tools.Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to organise and maintain documentation.Detail-oriented and quality-focused approach.Collaborative team player - able to establish and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
Additionally, any experience in these areas of technology would be advantageous:Project Management experience and/or qualifications.Experience in the development of mobile applications, ideally using Xamarin or .NET MAUI.Experience in the use of the Atlassian suite of tools for project management and delivery, specifically Jira and Confluence.An interest in the use of AI tooling to further the feature-sets delivered by newly developed technology platforms.
