About the roleYarra Ranges Council is looking for a Public Art Programs Officer to join our team. This role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of engaging public programs, activations, and events. You will develop promotional strategies and collateral to support these programs, leveraging your strong local, regional, and national networks to produce ambitious programming that engages diverse audiences and creates positive community outcomes with potential for commercial returns.
Full-time temporary position (secondment backfill) until 27 March 2026.Band 6 role with a salary range between $95,565 and $104,167 per annum pro rata, plus superannuation.Support work-life balance with a fortnightly or monthly rostered day off and hybrid working arrangements.Generous leave options including cultural and ceremonial leave, and menstrual and menopause leave.
Key responsibilities:
Plan and deliver permanent and temporary public art programs, including the ngurrak barring | RidgeWalk project in the Dandenong Ranges.Work closely with the ngurrak barring Cultural Lead and Public Art Working Group as part of the wider Economy, Tourism and Culture team.Support the public artworks installation process by maintaining accurate records and documentation.Develop, write, and scope art project briefs and activations in consultation with stakeholders and design professionals.Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant submissions, and manage the grant funding acquittal process.Collaborate with the Destination Marketing & Communications Coordinator to design and build the ngurrak barring website, liaising with artists for content.Work with Aboriginal Elders, local community members, and Council colleagues to deliver the public art program.
Experience and skills we’re looking for
Tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in public art programming, cultural project management or creative production roles.A strong understanding of public programming, activations, events management, and community engagement involving multiple stakeholders, within the context of public art, placemaking and participatory art projects.Strong cultural awareness and proven experience engaging with First Nations artistic and cultural practices, as well as First Nations communities.Skills in communication, including writing associated with activations, program proposals, reports, marketing, social media content and grant applications.
