Your role
You will develop and support the implementation of innovative programs and training in relation to Disaster Welfare practices. Provide specialist program advice and high-level analysis on issues and strategies.
What You’ll Do
The Aboriginal Senior Policy and Program Officer leads program design and works in partnership with Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations and Aboriginal Communities in relation to high risk evacuation areas.
You will work within a team of 7 who are located remotely around NSW, you design, manage and implement programs as allocated by the Manager, in particular the engagement of a prioritised set of Aboriginal communities at high risk of evacuation
What We’re Looking For
Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Aboriginal community and key stakeholders to successfully deliver programs for the community Provide high-level advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement and program design issues and contribute to the implementation culturally appropriate training. Provide high-level advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interventions including detailed briefing notes, cabinet minutes and correspondence. Represent the Department at interagency meetings and forums and contribute to interagency projects. Liaise with key stakeholders in the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policies and programs in NSW. Maintain effective liaison and consultation processes with the community, government and non-government sectors Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations and Aboriginal Communities to ensure effective collaboration on programs. Provide secretariat to the Department’s senior interagency committees and other groups as required. Effectively manage tender processes and contracts for the delivery of service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs.
As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia’s First Nations people.
Role
There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows. Either will be accepted:
Confirmation of Aboriginality form
or
Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:
is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
For the nature of the work within DCJ, it is fundamental that the candidate/s have a demonstrated strong understanding of Aboriginal people, lived experience, culture, communities, organisations, ways of working and history.
