Position Objective
The primary role of this position is to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of roadways by installing,
maintaining, and repairing road signs and pavement markings. The role plays a crucial part in supporting traffic
management, ensuring compliance with regulations, and enhancing overall road safety.
Position Responsibilities:
• Competently operate a range of plant items as required, according to the needs of the broader team and
- Carry out required checks of plant before commencing operation and report all defects appropriately.
- Undertake the operation, maintenance and cleaning of plant, vehicles, equipment, tools in a competent safe
- Correctly use and maintain plant equipment provided, including all personal protective equipment, in
- Carry out general labouring duties required to prepare and install signs posts, including preparing post
- Use tools such as levels and measuring tapes to ensure that the sign is correctly aligned and level.
- Participate in the assessment of the location where signs will be erected, giving consideration to factors
- Ensure that the signs meet specifications for size, reflectivity, and other relevant parameters.
- Undertake line marking duties, including but not limited to, surface preparation, operating and maintaining
line marking equipment and ensuring accurate spacing and alignment of line marking for traffic control and
safety
- Ensure that road markings are applied according to established guidelines and specifications.
- As directed, implement temporary traffic control measures during line marking or sign installation processed
to ensure the safety of workers and road users, including the using appropriate barricades to alert drivers to
the ongoing work and any changes in traffic patterns.
- Undertake duties as approved under the RMPC funding agreement, such as, the removal of animal carcasses
- Maintain good working relations and deal cooperatively with team members and members of the public to
- Carry out obligations in regard to Council Policies, Legislative requirements and Workplace Health and
for work and job sites.
- Other such relevant duties as required from time to time which would generally fall within the scope of this
Position Requirements
Skills
• Ability to perform basic numerical calculations
- Skill in applying pavement markings such as lines, arrows, and symbols.
- Ability to produce and maintain high standards, ensuring accuracy and precision in all aspects of work.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and standing for extended periods,
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment for tasks such as sign installation, line marking, and
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve issues that may arise during the installation or maintenance of signs and
- Effective communication skills to convey information and coordinate tasks with supervisor and other team
members.
• A good understanding of how to maintain a safe working environment
- Knowledge and understanding of the proper alignment, leveling, and securing of signs.
- Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and advisory signage.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic geometry.
Mandatory Qualifications/Experience
• Current MR Class Drivers Licence. (or ability to obtain)
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Working at Heights Licence
- High Risk Work Licence (Fork Lift)
- Conduct Front-end Loader Operations Competency
- Traffic Management Implementation Licence (or ability to obtain)
- Experience in installing various types of road signs, including regulatory, warning, and guide signs.
- Experience in interpreting construction plans and blueprints to understand the layout and placement of
Desirable Experience/Qualifications
• First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Conduct Roller Operations Competency
- Conduct Skid Steer Loader Operations Competency
- Control Traffic with a Stop Slow Bat (Accreditation)
- Tertiary Qualifications in Civil Construction or other relevant field.
- Chemical Handling Competency (Prepare & Apply chemicals; Transport & Store Chemicals; Control Weeds).

- Assist in maintaining a high level of housekeeping, cleanliness, and tidiness.
- Undertake tasks as required to enable continuous improvement for WHS management.
