The Role
You will play an integral role in uplifting the cyber security posture of Defence Industry that are part of the Defence industry Security Program (DISP). The uplift program focusses on moving DISP entities from Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Top 4 to Essential 8 mitigation strategies.

As a cyber-security program manager, your role in uplifting the security posture of Defence industry will require well-rounded experience in leadership, program management, technical assessments, development of frameworks, data analytics and reporting. Communication of cyber security issues and opportunities is a key aspect to the role. As the role is industry facing, you will need to be comfortable talking to a wide range of industry representatives and be able to engage with them.

Some of your responsibilities will be:

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of the cyber uplift program.
  • Facilitate contract management and procurement activities, ensuring compliance with legislative and procurement policies, processes and procedures including performance reporting.
  • Apply your knowledge and experience of computer-based systems to gain an understanding of system function, operation and security posture.
  • Develop cyber security requirements, frameworks and process maps.
  • Develop productive and effective relationships with industry, and Defence policy partners such as ASD.
  • Manage a diverse team of technical specialists, including education and mentoring, to develop the cyber security capability within Defence.
  • Provide trusted advice, lead forums and engage with internal Defence stakeholders and Defence industry.
  • Drive continual improvement while encouraging staff to achieve their full potential.

These positions are important for building Defence capability and carries an entitlement to receive Building Defence Capability Premium (BDCP) to eligible employees. The employment category is viewed as being of strategic significance to Defence capability, and assign a premium of up to 15% of eligible salary and allowances to employees occupying specific positions within that employment category.

We are looking for a program manager with a problem-solving mindset that will ensure that Defence and Defence industry are secure.

The skills we are looking for are:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Essential Eight (E8) requirements is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to manage contracts along with a demonstrated experience in data analytics and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with wide range of stakeholder engagement, at a whole of government level as well as Industry.
  • A proven ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences along with strong written communication skills.
  • Be passionate about cyber-security and risk management, ability to work as a team and adapt to changing priorities in a high-pressure environment.
  • Have a strong record of accomplishment and demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • A strong ability for identifying issues and possible solutions and the ability to manage sensitive and high-risk issues with diligence, thought and discretion.
  • Understand the strategic environment, linking program outcomes to the mission and organisational goals.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership through guiding, mentoring and developing your team.
  • Experience in analysing complex security issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions to improve processes and address challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, coordinating efforts, and ensuring effective communication to achieve shared goals.
  • Strong staff management skills and a demonstrated ability to work within a diverse and blended workforce and foster a positive workplace culture.
