About the Role
We are currently looking to recruit a Superintendent – Housing & Facilities. Who will manage the village, commercial, site and housing facilities for our Weipa site operations including maintenance, village and accommodation management, local contract/contractor compliance and health, safety and environment.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for managing the real estate and facilities owned by Rio Tinto. You will manage the cost and business risk associated with the infrastructure, internal and external space, and services. Coordinate changes to all facilities and monitor performance against contracted agreements.
Managing a small team and reporting to the Manager – Assets & Operational Services , you will:
- Oversees the efficient use of village accommodation to ensure high occupancy rates to support business performance.
- Ensures operated properties are maintained to the required standard of quality, including effective lease allocation.
- Oversees the management of day-to-day scheduling of maintenance requirements and execution of maintenance services.
- Ensures effective project management of smaller projects including commercial projects maintenance.
- Oversees the delivery of services by contracting organisations to ensure services are provided in a timely, safe, and quality way in accordance with established contracts and standards.
- Supervises and develops the performance of the team in line with Rio Tinto’s company values, in order to achieve objectives.

- Exceptional communication skills, the ability to work autonomously and proactively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience in leading teams and contractors
- Demonstrated experience in safety management systems
- Experienced in applying the contractor management process
Qualifications
- A Current Queensland Australian ‘C’ Class Driver's Licence

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tons of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape
