Job DescriptionBESIX Watpac is seeking an in-house Construction Lawyer to work closely with and provide assistance to the Commercial Manager with commercial, contractual and legal matters including the review and preparation of contracts and agreements, contracts management, and issue resolution.
This role will be responsible for:
- Attend and provide support to the Commercial Manager with tender, contract negotiation and dispute resolution discussions.
- Assist with drafting, reviewing and negotiating subcontracts and consultant agreements to ensure alignment with commercial objectives.
- Prepare special conditions to BESIX Watpac’s template suite of agreements to ensure compliance with the head contract requirements.
- Review proposed departures by subcontractors, suppliers and consultants to BESIX Watpac’s template suite of agreements and work closely with the Commercial Manager to progress and resolve those contractual departures.
- Review confidentiality agreements and memoranda of understandings, teaming agreement and similar early engagement arrangements and draft necessary amendments.
- Assist with managing disputes, claims and litigation by gathering evidence and preparing legal documents.
- Assist with the preparation of head contract commercial benchmark reviews during tenders.
The incumbent in this role will require:
- Degree in law and current Queensland practising certificate.
- 2-3 years PQE with experience in Construction Law within a law firm.
- Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the business.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
