About the role
We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Communications Officer to support the Lord Mayor in promoting Council policies, projects and programs and in protecting the City of Sydney’s public reputation.
This fast-paced role sits at the heart of the City’s communications team. It combines media, marketing and digital content to engage with the community and keep Sydney informed.
What you’ll be doing:
- drafting clear, engaging press releases, social media posts and marketing content
- supporting the Lord Mayor with media prep, briefings and public events
- spotting opportunities to promote key initiatives across media and community channels
- engaging with local communities online to keep them informed and connected
- ensuring all content is high quality, on brand and delivered on time
We're looking for someone with:
- a degree in communications or a related field and/or extensive relevant experience within a large and high-profile organisation
- strong writing skills, especially for media and digital platforms
- solid project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- confidence, discretion and the ability to work under pressure
- a passion for public service and community engagement

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
