Overview

This role will support the Executive General Manager and Managers in the Strategy, Investments & Acquisitions (M&A) team who are responsible for Group strategy, investigating and executing Group transactions and managing the Group’s investment portfolio (joint venture and associate equity interests). Key aspects of the role will be providing analytical support, building financial models and assisting with research and due diligence.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Critically analyse data and third-party research reports, considering the actual or possible impact on the Group strategic position.
  • Monitor industry developments, economic drivers and competitor activity relevant to investment, divestment and acquisition decisions.
  • Develop and / or review financial models for investments, divestments or acquisitions forecasting and evaluation purposes.
  • Develop and update databases to retain market and transaction information for potential and current investments, divestments and acquisitions.
  • Assist with due diligence of selected transaction opportunities.
  • Deliver project, ad hoc and routine analysis to the M&A team and other group executives as required.
  • Present data in a way that is capable of clear communication to key stakeholders.
  • Work with operating company staff and external service providers to achieve desired outcomes.


Education and Qualifications required for this role:

  • Degree qualified in Finance, Accounting or related discipline.

Experience, Skills and Behavioural Competencies required for this role:

  • Ideally 2 to 3 years’ experience in analytical role within a corporate M&A team, investment bank, investment firm or transactional accounting firm.
  • Knowledge of key finance concepts, particularly in relation to M&A and debt and equity markets.
  • Commercially focused, able to grasp new concepts quickly and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to think laterally and analytically, applying innovation to M&A challenges.
  • High attention to detail, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and cope with pressure.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word capability and the ability to create meaningful presentations to sophisticated audiences.
  • Experience in Construction, Mining or Services industries preferred.
