The Role:
The Director Housing Policy & Projects will play a pivotal role in improving the affordability, accessibility, and sustainability of South Australia's housing. This role involves developing best practice policies, delivering impactful programs, and providing strategic advice to DHUD executive, the department and broader government. This role requires strong cross-government relationships, genuine engagement with stakeholders, and strong reporting functions to the Minister and the Department. The Director will provide strategic advice, manage stakeholder relationships, develop policy, and implement projects, leading a high-performing team to achieve cross-portfolio objectives.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and delivery policy, projects, and reforms that require collaboration across multiple divisions of DHUD to achieve improved housing outcomes.
- Lead change and innovation in policy, systems, and procedures to unlock the delivery of more houses, faster.
- Support and advise the Executive Director of Policy, Coordination, and Land Titles and participate in committees of the State Housing Delivery Group to define and deliver departmental and team strategy and priorities.
- Lead a professional team in policy development, implementation and coordination of housing delivery programs.
- Provide authoritative advice to the Executive Director and the Department's senior executive team and to Government and influence, collaborate, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive housing market and portfolio outcomes.
- Enable a supportive, creative, and results focussed working environment.
- Leading consultation with internal and external stakeholders on new policy business cases for strategic approaches to deliver the State's housing needs into the future.
About You:
- High-level project management skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and develop clear solutions.
- Experience managing policy, projects, and change, preferably in a large, complex organisation with the ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
- Comprehensive understanding of contemporary approaches to housing policy and South Australian planning systems.
- Effective, versatile, and action-oriented approach with outstanding leadership skills to guide and inspire the team.
- High-level interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to represent views, mediate, and negotiate successfully
Essential Qualification:
Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent industry/professional experience at a senior level, with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
Special Conditions:
- Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
- Will be required to undergo psychometric testing.
