About the opportunity

We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for an environmental professional to join our Waterways team as the Waterway Projects Officer.

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Develop and implement activities to support the implementation of Council's Environmental stormwater management program and Six streams integrated water strategy, to help Blacktown transition to a water sensitive City, that values and improves its waterways for the benefit of the community and the environment
  • Develop and deliver the waterway health planning, monitoring, and community awareness programs to inform catchment management activities, to improve waterway health and enhance liveability for our community.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Natural Resources Management
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in a similar work environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge in catchment management issues, ecosystem health and freshwater urban stream management and ecology
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with the community to understand community values and uses of waterways
  • Demonstrated experience in project management including managing contractors to meet timeframes and within budget
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated commitment to deliver good customer service
  • Demonstrated experience in interpretation and analysis of complex data to inform decision making
  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Current class C driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of InDesign software
  • Experience in the use of CM9 and Technology One
  • Experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS or similar.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,798.21 per week
  • 35-hour working week
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
