Position Summary
As a Conservation Operations Team Member, you will contribute to the delivery of land management and restoration activities that enhance biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. The role includes assisting with state and federal offset plans, revegetation activities, seed collection, land preparation, planting, and conservation maintenance operations. You'll work independently and in small to large teams, sometimes supervising contractors or volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement actions in line with Cassinia’s strategic vision and conservation values
- Undertake land management tasks including herbicide spraying, fencing, rabbit control, and revegetation
- Deliver offset management actions for threatened species and ecological communities
- Operate and maintain machinery and tools used in field operations
- Collect data, maintain records, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and report OH&S risks, ensuring compliance with policies
- Occasionally supervise and support volunteers, interns, and contractors
- Share knowledge with less experienced team members
- Participate in flora and fauna monitoring and plant identification
Key Skills & Experience
- Diploma of Conservation and Land Management or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in land management and ecological reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and mapping applications
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Organised with excellent time management and attention to detail
- Practical knowledge of chemical handling, flora/fauna monitoring, and revegetation techniques
- Comfortable working in remote and diverse environments
Additional Requirements
- Manual driver’s licence (4WD capability preferred)
- Chemical users' certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Chainsaw licence (or willingness to obtain)
- High level of physical fitness
