Senior Legal Officer (Commercial, Property And Insurance)

National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
Brisbane Full-day Full-time

Description:

Are you a lawyer with 5 years + experience looking to make a change in 2025?

Are you tired of the relentless pressure of budgets, billable hours, weekend work, and endless “desk time"? If so, then the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) may be just what you’re looking for. With a rostered day off each month, extra “free” annual leave, the ability to work from home each week and up to 19.75% superannuation through a co-contribution scheme, there will be more opportunity to recharge and re-focus on you.

This role is open to both full-time and part-time candidates, with flexible job share opportunities available for the right applicant. The NHVR has corporate offices and regional hubs nationwide, and this role can be based at any of these locations, including at the NHVR’s beautifully designed, new corporate head office at Newstead Brisbane, which has access to excellent end-of-trip facilities and public transport options, with a free shuttle bus running between Bowen Hills train station and Newstead.

We are looking for a skilled lawyer with 5+ years of post-admission experience (PAE) and a strong background in technology law, particularly in privacy, data, technology and intellectual property (IP). If you are interested in broadening your legal skills into other practice areas, please let us know. The NHVR would also love to support you to do this and can offer you the opportunity to branch out into other areas including property, commercial, and insurance matters, while continuously developing and expanding your existing legal knowledge.

This is a fantastic opportunity to advance your legal career in a dynamic and supportive environment, where your expertise will contribute to the development of innovative and practical legal solutions and to the growth of our national organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support to NHVR’s Procurement and Data & Technology teams
  • Draft, advise on, and negotiate technology contracts, data sharing agreements and confidentiality agreements
  • Provide advice on IT procurement, outsourcing and compliance with data and privacy legislation
  • Advise on intellectual property protection and management in Australia
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the NHVR’s IP Framework
  • Offer strategic advice to ensure effective management of legal risks

About You: To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 5+ years of post-admission experience (PAE) as a legal practitioner specialising in technology, privacy and intellectual property law
  • Admission as a legal practitioner to the High Court or Supreme Court of a State or Territory
  • In-house experience in property law, commercial law and/or insurance is desirable but not essential

If you're ready for a new opportunity that prioritises both your professional growth and personal well-being, apply today to be part of a team that values its people!
