The University of Queensland Student Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation, independent of the University of Queensland that supports and represents the student community by actively promoting a positive, fun, healthy and supportive student Experience. This is a unique organisation, operating numerous food, beverage, entertainment and retail outlets on UQ campuses, as well as Student Advocacy and Support, and student clubs and societies at St Lucia and Gatton Campuses. UQU employs over 150 staff, a percentage of whom, being elected students, change annually.
Schonell Catering & Events
UQU’s Schonell Catering and Events is looking for a dynamic and energetic catering duty supervisor to assist in supervising and managing our catering and event operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys providing top-tier customer service while leading a supportive, hands-on team.
The Role:
This is a permanent part-time position with a guaranteed 20 hours per week. During peak times, additional hours are available, up to 38 hours per week.
As a Catering Duty Supervisor, your role will include:
- Coordinating, managing, and executing events, functions, and catering bookings.
- Supervising and supporting staff to ensure adherence to SOPs and excellent service delivery
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety during all events/functions
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering supplies appropriately for each event/function, while ensuring efficient stock control

We’re looking for someone with strong leadership skills and a passion for creating a positive and productive team environment. If you have excellent customer service skills and enjoy hands-on support in a busy setting, this role is for you! You’ll also have a keen eye for detail and exceptional organizational abilities, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively even under pressure.
Key Requirements:
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a hospitality setting, including training, rostering, and budget management
- Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced, service-oriented workplace
- Ability to work independently, showing initiative and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge of WHS, manual handling, and food safety and hygiene practices
- A current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate is highly desirable
