About the opportunity:
Northcott are seeking a Design lead to drive innovation and will play a key role in providing design leadership and ensuring key initiatives are aligned to Northcott’s values and strategic priorities. The role will be a key conduit to between Northcott Innovation work and the key stakeholders and leaders within Northcott.
Role Requirements:
- Excellent ability to recognise and pursue opportunities for innovation and design-led investigations and solutions.
- Ability to use multiple forms of research and prototyping to place customers and staff at the centre of service design.
- Extensive skills in facilitation, codesign workshops, capability building.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to change and keep working towards defined goals whilst also knowing when to change direction and adapt.
- Ability to work with people across the organisational spectrum, from senior executive to frontline.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and design process management.
- Emotional intelligence with an ability to listen, be curious and empathise with an ability to influence.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability with outcome-focused solutions.
- Collaborative and can manage others to deliver projects.
- Experience working in disability, social impact or non-profit sector.
- Experience in reporting to a Board of Directors.
Typical duties might include:
- Lead the identification, design and delivery of service innovation and design projects.
- Mentor and guide a multidisciplinary team.
- Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, customers, families, government and tertiary organisations and potential innovation partners.
- Align service innovation and design with the organisation’s strategic priorities and values.
- Use evidence-based methods to measure the success of initiatives.
- Build design capability within NI and Northcott more broadly by training and empowering staff to adopt human-centred design strategies.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies and policies in the disability sector to drive innovation.
- Collaborate with Northcott’s internal teams to review and ensure design solutions continue to be feasible and responsive to stakeholder needs and organisation’s strategic priorities.
- Report outcome, impact and performance of Northcott Innovation initiatives.
- Oversee and monitor Northcott Innovation budget and make appropriate recommendations and adjustments as necessary.
- Design and lead facilitation of workshops and capacity building work aligned with innovation and design projects.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in service design, strategic design or experience design.
- A degree in design, social innovation or related field.
